卂ṭṭαs

Aṭṭas, which means ‘abundance’ in Kabyle, designates a fictional universe whose founding principle is the exploration of multiple possibilities in terms of narrative structures, characters, settings, power dynamics, and situations. It is conceived as a space of proliferation, where histories and configurations coexist and evolve through difference rather than linearity.

Vaïluvah

The universe of Vaïluvah is structured around cosmic systems of remarkable complexity. The Smoking Widow, one of its major galaxies, was born from the fusion of two twin galaxies. This cataclysmic event did not merely reshape stellar matter; it generated unusual cosmic and metaphysical disturbances, giving rise to strange phenomena observed in certain regions of the galaxy. The Smoking Widow is thus distinguished by its dense and unpredictable activity.

Within this galaxy, the Sitrien system revolves around the star Sitri, whose influence is crucial to the life and organization of its planets. Thirteen planets orbit Sitri, with Tamurt, the fourth planet, lying within the habitable zone. The Sitrien system is located approximately eight kiloparsecs from the galactic core and completes a full revolution around it every 225 to 250 million years.

Being the sixth planet in order of distance from Sitri, Tamurt is the fifth largest planet in the system in terms of both mass and diameter. With a diameter measuring approximately 14,000 kilometers at the equator, its mass is proportionally greater, making it the densest planet in the system. Tamurt is also the only known celestial body to host life, from simple organisms to complex civilisations. It completes a full orbit around Sitri in 365.256 solar days and a rotation on its axis in 23 hours, 58 minutes, and 7 seconds, accounting for the slight difference between its sidereal day and the 24-hour solar day.

Radiometric dating indicates that Tamurt formed about 4.54 billion years ago, shortly after Sitri itself. Its two natural satellites, Leuksnā I and Leuksnā II, formed soon after, likely from debris generated by massive collisions during the planet’s early history. These moons exert a major gravitational influence, generating oceanic tides, stabilising the planet’s rotational axis, and gradually slowing its rotational speed over long timescales. Leuksnā I, the closer and smaller moon, primarily influences coastal tides and periodic oceanic phenomena and contributes to long-term axial stability. Leuksnā II, larger and more distant, exerts a subtle but constant effect on deep-sea tides, ocean currents, and even large-scale atmospheric patterns. Its orbital position serves as a natural marker for sailors and coastal civilisations, predicting recurring natural events across Tamurt.

Approximately 61 per cent of the planet’s surface is covered by water, forming the oceans, lakes, and rivers of the hydrosphere, while the remaining 39 per cent consists of continents, islands, and mountain ranges. Its axial tilt is approximately 23.44 degrees relative to its orbital plane, resulting in inverted seasons depending on position on the globe. In the Northern Hemisphere (Gildburner, Veil, Délicity, etc.), summer occurs from Tafune to Tmanaber and winter from Aïul to Asidary, while in the Southern Hemisphere (Santalona, Jazā’ir Baribaros…), it is the opposite, with summer from Aïul to Asidary and winter from Tafune to Tmanaber.

However, not all regions experience four clearly defined seasons, as these also depend on climate and geographical position. In tropical regions near the equator, there are generally not four seasons but rather a rainy season and a dry season, as in the Great Desert. In contrast, in polar regions the seasons are much more extreme, dominated by glaciers and ice sheets, including the northern Greyshore Inlandsis and the massive southern polar ice cap, with a very long and extremely cold winter and a very short summer, sometimes marked by 24-hour daylight.

The combination of powerful tides, dynamic ocean currents, and a stable atmosphere supports the existence of a rich and complex biosphere on a planetary scale.

Anomalies

The Yaqẓa refers to a supernatural mental awakening, a mutation of perception that opens the psyche to dimensions the ordinary human mind cannot reach. It is neither an art nor a form of flux; it is an intrinsic transformation of consciousness that pierces the fragile membrane separating the mind from the invisible world. Individuals affected by this awakening are called Yaqiẓ. Their minds become more lucid and attentive but also more vulnerable. This opening is not controlled: it imposes itself upon the individual, sometimes violently, and can weaken reason. There are no physical signs by which a Yaqiẓ can be identified, except for their gaze, which often betrays a constant alertness, as if they were always perceiving more than what is visible.

The awakening of Yaqẓa can occur in two ways. It may be traumatic, triggered by an extreme emotional or cognitive shock that forces the mind open. It can also be linked to neuroatypia, as certain mental structures make consciousness more permeable from the outset. Once awakened, Yaqẓa manifests naturally and independently of the Yaqiẓ’s will. Psychic abilities emerge without conscious control, involuntarily, occasionally at opportune moments, but usually not. These manifestations remain significantly diminished and take the form of psychic aptitudes such as psychokinesis, telepathy, psychometry, clairvoyance, precognition, or astral projection. Most Yaqiẓ access only one or two of these abilities; exceeding three is exceptional. The strength of Yaqẓa varies greatly between individuals and fluctuates throughout life. A Yaqiẓ may go through periods of extreme sensitivity, during which perception expands, followed by phases of attenuation where their abilities are nearly dormant.

The true danger of Yaqẓa appears when an individual attempts to force the voluntary use of these abilities. Unlike natural manifestations, conscious activation damages the psyche, affects the brain, and directly interferes with the flux. The more Yaqẓa is used deliberately, the more access to flux deteriorates, potentially leading to a complete severance. The consequences are severe: mental overload, chronic anxiety, sleep disorders, hallucinations, dissociation, fragmentation of the perception of reality, profound psychic exhaustion, and acute crises. In extreme cases, this can result in lasting conditions such as schizophrenia, psychopathy, or long-term Alzheimer’s disease. Yaqẓa is therefore regarded as a neutral but unstable phenomenon: an awakening that illuminates the mind without asking permission and which, when one tries to master it, can consume those to whom it has been revealed.

Yaqẓa comes from Arabic, meaning “awakening,” and Yaqiẓ means “awakened.” The ẓ indicates a pronunciation close to the English th.

Emerald Blood refers to a rare, innate condition present in certain individuals from birth. It is a profound alteration of flus: instead of remaining invisible and potentially mobilizable through training, the flus materializes directly within the body and completely replaces blood. The conventional circulatory system is thus substituted by a network of physical flus flowing through the veins. This substance is more fluid and less viscous than human blood, and is distinguished by a vivid emerald-green color that is immediately recognizable. This alteration is also visible in the eyes, whose irises adopt the same emerald hue, a clear identifying trait of affected individuals. Despite its name, Emerald Blood is neither a disease nor a voluntary blessing: it is an irreversible biological and energetic state.

The effects of Emerald Blood are radical. Bearers are entirely incapable of using flux: no conscious manipulation of energy is possible. In exchange, their bodies naturally reach a superhuman physical level, without training or deliberate effort. Their strength far exceeds human limits, their robustness rivals bulletproof metals, their speed surpasses normal biological thresholds, and all of their senses are extraordinarily sharpened. Their metabolism is optimised, recovery is accelerated, and their lifespan is significantly extended. Although a physical flus flows through their veins, their disconnection from the flux prevents them from perceiving it; however, it also protects them from its direct effects. This condition represents a form of extreme physical evolution, transforming the human into a natural predator perfectly adapted to survival and combat. For this reason, they are commonly referred to as “Emerald Blood carriers”, a term reflecting the tension between energetic incapacity and overwhelming physical superiority.

A tutli object, or simply a tutli, is an artifact that has undergone the tutlitering process: an obscure technique through which a rune is inscribed onto a non-natural object to define a specific effect, which is then forced to manifest in the material world.

The foundation of this art lies in tutlayt, a runic language devised by Naïhuni, used to inscribe symbols that describe the intended outcome of the transformation, such as alteration, reinforcement, detonation, or invocation. The inscription itself remains inert without power. For a tutli rune to function, it must be completely filled with flus, in an amount comparable to that contained within a living being. Since flus is immaterial and exists on an invisible plane, it cannot be perceived or manipulated directly. Tutlitering therefore depends on ritual mediation, allowing flus to be redirected at the precise moment it is released from life and bound into the inscribed object.

The process begins with the construction of a ritual pentacle, inscribed upon the ground in tutlayt. Its structure is deliberately profane: a cumulative arrangement of insults, blasphemies directed at the Hunis, and prayers addressed to Naïhuni himself. The pentacle must be sufficiently vast to contain both the non-natural object intended and the living being whose flus will be extracted. During the rite, certain officiants recite a chant-prayer to Naïhuni in tutlayt, while others perform the sacrifice within the circle. At the instant of death, the flus is released from the body, still unseen, yet momentarily unbound. The ritual structure then asserts its function: the pentacle constrains the flus, the chants guide it, and the rune absorbs it. In doing so, the flus is disabled from ascending to the Great High, remaining trapped within the material world, anchored to an object now bearing a forced mystical function, usable once.

The scale of the rune determines the amount of flus required. Minor inscriptions, producing limited effects, may be sustained through animal sacrifice. Greater runes, whose effects can produce large and powerful effects, demand beings with far denser flus reserves, often requiring multiple sacrifices. In every case, the outcome is identical: a soul-resource diverted from its cosmic course, bound permanently into matter. Tutlitering was conceived by Naïhuni, who taught it directly to the earliest sects that worshipped him. Through this art, he granted humanity another practice independent of flux mastery, while simultaneously denying the Great High to stolen souls.

Tutlayt (from the Kabyle word for “language”, pronounced toot-light), formerly known as Naï’n-Tutlayt, is the system upon which Tutlitering depends. It is not a spoken language but a ritual script, designed to encode intent rather than communication. When voiced, its pronunciation resembles liturgical Latin. Tutlayt is used exclusively in rune-binding, and Ölü summoning.

After a prolonged period of inactivity, generally between five and ten years, if a tutli object has never been used and therefore has not used the flus by fulfilling its intended function, an anomaly can occur. The bound flus ceases to exist merely as a dormant energy reservoir and instead fully incarnates within the material object, regaining consciousness. It is as though the soul of the sacrificed individual takes control of the object, beginning a second life. This existence is inherently fragile. The object is not the soul’s original body, nor was it designed to sustain life. Every action driven by the soul’s will, such as speaking, moving, or interacting with the world if the object is capable of such acts, consumes a portion of its remaining flus, and thus its life expectancy. Each deliberate act shortens this unnatural lifespan, rendering existence itself a constant expenditure toward eventual dissolution.

This anomaly does not depend on Naïhuni. It is a rare occurrence that may arise only when the conditions for its manifestation are met.

A Tourne-vie is a whirligig bound to a person’s flus, operating not through wind, but through life force itself. At first glance, it is indistinguishable from an ordinary whirligig, identical in shape and construction. Yet despite appearances, it does not respond to air currents: even in the heart of a storm, a Tourne-vie will remain perfectly still if the flus of its linked individual does not reach it.

During its creation, the future owner must personally infuse their flux into the whirligig, allowing the object to absorb and imprint their unique flus signature. Without this direct act of infusion, the Tourne-vie remains inert and indistinguishable from a mundane toy. Once bound, the connection is permanent and cannot be transferred to another individual.

When active, the Tourne-vie will rotate to point unerringly toward its owner, regardless of where that person is in the world. Through this motion, it provides a constant sense of direction, allowing one to know where the bound individual is located, though never how far away they are, nor what obstacles may lie between them.

True to its name “turn-life”, the Tourne-vie reflects the vital state of its owner through its movement. As the person’s life force weakens, the rotation of the whirligig gradually slows. Should the individual recover, the Tourne-vie will return to its original rhythm. If the owner dies, however, the device will cease all motion entirely, falling silent and inert.

Far from being a rare artifact, the Tourne-vie is a well-known and widely used object, found throughout many regions of Tamurt. It serves as a practical substitute for long-distance relations, commonly used in familial, romantic, and professional relationships to maintain orientation toward one another. In societies where long-range messaging and speaking devices are poorly developed or unreliable, the Tourne-vie is often employed to coordinate meetings, or simply maintain a sense of connection across great distances.
